In most cases, a student visa is required in order to enrol at Brandenburg University. Applicants from the EU and other countries that Germany has a special agreement with do not need a visa. Please be aware that it can take several months to process an application for a student visa so please apply in time. You can find current information on visa applications at: https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/en/visa-service/visa-navigator/2489244
Important: the issued visa must correspond to the purpose of your stay:
In Germany, you do not automatically receive a place in the dormitory when you are accepted for a degree programme. Students are responsible for searching accommodation themselves. Finding accommodation might be a serious challenge. That's why you should start to look for a flat as soon as possible. Please do not come to THB without arranging for a place to stay before you arrive as THB cannot provide your housing!
We can, however, assist by providing an extensive information sheet on finding a flat in the city and around with contact data of landlords. Just contact us at wolffh(at)th-brandenburg.de.
Please also search in the surrounding cities of Brandenburg as your Semesterticket (travel ticket for the whole of Germany) enables you to commute without additional costs.
The Studierendenwerk West:Brandenburg provides international students with accommodation in our student hall of residence located on the university campus. The rent for a room in the hall of residence starts from € 310 per month. Some single occupancy apartments are available, but in high demand, for € 370 per month. A refundable deposit is required at the time the contract is signed.
Please note that you cannot live in the student hall of residence if you are over 30 years old. Please also note that there are often more applicants than places, so please apply early! To make sure you'll get a room or flat, please also search for private accommodation and do not travel to THB before having secured a room or at least temporary accommodation.
You can find information on living in the student's hall of residence here. Please apply well in advance online here.
Rooms in the hall are single rooms. Up to five rooms form one unit, and all rooms are furnished. The hall is equipped with washing machines and dryers. There are sufficient parking spaces for motorcycles and cars. There are several common rooms in the halls. For further details see here.
Please have a look here for general information from the DAAD on housing. The guidelines for living in a flat provide helpful information on organisational matters.
For students who prefer to or have to live off-campus, we recommend searching well in advance before the beginning of the semester or to book into a hotel or hostel for the first time in order to have time to look for private accommodation! Please also ask for our information sheet on finding a flat in the city (see above).
Please note that there are barely any furnished flats in Brandenburg an der Havel. Please also check whether the flat already has a fitted kitchen which is not always the case.
An apartment building called “Caasmann 7” is located not far from the THB (about a 15-minute walk). For further information, as well as online inquiries and room reservations, visit: https://www.caasmann7.de/

As a student, you can apply for a yearly bonus each year you live in the city of Brandenburg.
