The path to a career is not something that can be decided in one day.
Right at the start of your degree programme, you should think about where you want to go in the long term and how you can prepare for this.
Here are some possible steps:
Take advantage of the services offered by the The University Centre Student Service, e.g:
• Appointment for personal counselling
• Potential analysis
• Soft skills seminars
Create a specialised profile for yourself:
• through compulsory electives
• and term paper and thesis topics,
that suit your future career goal.
For employers, practical experience is what counts first and foremost. Therefore, gain as much practical experience as possible during your studies!
• Do internships.
• Look for part-time jobs that are related to your degree programme.
• Write your thesis in a company.
• Voluntary work can also provide valuable practical experience.
You are studying in a foreign country in a language that is not your mother tongue. That's a great achievement!
Nevertheless, you should continue to perfect your German during your studies, because for many employers, perfect German language skills are still a must...
If necessary, you should also not forget to improve your English language skills to a very good level, as these are also in high demand from employers.
Information on language learning opportunities during your studies can be found at the Language Centre of the TH Brandenburg.
Find out early on, e.g. from job advertisements, what special knowledge and skills (e.g. certain computer programmes, etc.) are required for your chosen career field and try to acquire these on the side. You can find inexpensive vocational training and IT courses at the Brandenburg an der Havel Adult Education Centre, for example. At our Centre for International Relations and Languages, you have the opportunity to acquire the Certificate for Intercultural Competence and thus show future employers how committed you are.
