We strongly advise you to apply well in advance (at least 4 weeks before the final deadline), in case there are any questions or if missing documents have to be submitted.
Students with a German Abitur or university degree can apply directly at THB.
All applications from non-German students with a non German school leaving exam or university degree have to be pre-checked by the “Application Services for International Students” association (uni-assist) to ensure they are complete and meet all of the necessary formal requirements. Please note that there is a fee for this service.
Uni-Assist lets applicants apply for admission to several universities of their choice by submitting only one set of documents.
You should submit the following documents to*:
Technische Hochschule Brandenburg
c/o uni-assist e.V.
11507 Berlin, Germany
We recommend that you have these documents translated in good time by a sworn translator and then have them authenticated by a notary public, a public authority or embassy.
Official authentication is the confirmation (stamp/seal and signature) of the authenticity of a photocopy of a certificate by an authorized body: https://www.uni-assist.de/en/how-to-apply/assemble-your-documents/certified-copies-and-translations/
Video: https://handbookgermany.de/en/certifiedcopies (To see the video in other languages, please scroll down to Languages.)
Germany: The following public bodies may provide official authentication: Municipal administrations, county administrations and lower administration authorities, e.g. local mayors and officials, city administrations (city hall), district authorities, courts and notaries. Other countries: The following bodies are authorized to provide official authentication: the diplomatic missions of the Federal Republic of Germany and authorities and notaries authorized to provide official authentication in the respective country.
If your secondary school leaving certificate is not considered to be equivalent to the German “Abitur” or “Reifezeugnis” and you were not enrolled at a higher education institute prior to applying to Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences, you will not be directly admitted to the degree programme. In this case, you have the option of taking a university entrance examination, called a “Feststellungsprüfung”, at a “Studienkolleg” preparatory course institution. Passing this exam will enable you to study at Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences. The“Feststellungsprüfung” certificate is required for your application.
You can also apply for our one-year "ESiSt - Successful start in university studies for international students in Brandenburg" study preparation programme in cooperation with Potsdam University. You will need to apply through uni-assist by 15th July. A B2 level in German is required.
Nobody is perfect in a foreign language. Nonetheless, in order to study at our university you have to pass one of the following examinations in German as a Foreign Language:
Brandenburg University offers an intensive preparatory German course called "Deutschplus".
Please apply via uni-assist by 31st January for the summer semester or 10th August for the winter semester. You must meet the admission requirements and submit a German language certificate at the B2 level.
There are exceptions to these requirements if you want to study at our university for only one or two semesters or if you are a student at one of our partner universities.
To make your stay in Germany easier, we recommend taking a German language course in your home country before coming to Germany. If you come to Germany and have already passed one of the required examinations, you will have overcome an important hurdle and saved yourself a lot of trouble. Please contact us if you would like further information on such courses.
