Yes, refugees may study at Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences.
In terms of being admitted to a degree programme, refugees will be treated just like other international applicants.
Proof of language proficiency:
International applicants and refugees must prove they have sufficient knowledge of German at the C1 level.
You can submit one of the following certificates as proof of sufficient German language skills:
• DSH 2
• TestDaF (4x4 points or higher)
• Goethe-Zertifikat C1 or higher
• Deutsches Sprachdiplom (DSD) Stufe 2 (German Language Certificate (Level 2) of the Education Ministers Conference)
• Telc C1 Hochschule at least “satisfactory/befriedigend”
Your university entrance qualification should be recognised in Germany.
Anabin can help you determine that. Simply enter the country in which you earned your secondary school leaving certificate.
If you have already studied for at least 2 years in your country or you have a degree, you can apply for the same study programme or one in a similar subject.
If you want to apply for the Business Administration (Master), Security Management or Technology and Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship programme, you must prove your English language proficiency is at the B2/C1 level as well. For the Business Administration (Bachelor) programme, a B1 level is sufficient.
If your secondary school leaving certificate is not considered to be equivalent to the German “Abitur” or “Reifezeugnis” and you were not enrolled at a higher education institute prior to applying to Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences, you will not be directly admitted to a degree programme. In this case, you have the option of taking an entrance examination, called a “Feststellungsprüfung”, at a “Studienkolleg” preparatory course institution. Passing this exam will enable you to study at Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences. The “Feststellungsprüfung” certificate is required for your application.
You can also apply for our one-year "Studienvorbereitung Brandenburg" study preparation programme in cooperation with Potsdam University. You will need to apply through uni-assist by 15th July. A B2 level in German is needed.
TestAS is an assessment test that examines your general and subject-related abilities.
The exam can be taken in English, German and Arabic. Refugees can find further information here: http://refugees.testas.de/.
If any documents are missing, we will make our decision in accordance with the Resolution of the Kultusministerkonferenz (Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany) dated 03-12-2015.
If your documents are incomplete, we advise you to contact Ms Meyer (firstname.lastname@example.org) before applying.
Refugees who are recognised may be entitled to receive financial support under the BAföG (German Federal Training Assistance Act), irrespective of how long they have already been in Germany.
The same applies for “tolerated” refugees if they have already been residing in Germany for at least 15 months starting from the date they originally applied for asylum in Germany.
This does not apply to the preparatory German course.
If you are a registered student at Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences, the semester ticket is included in your student documents. This means you are automatically entitled to a semester ticket.
The semester ticket is valid in the federal states of Brandenburg and Berlin.
