Semester abroad at a partner university

Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences maintains numerous partnerships with European partner universities through the ERASMUS programme as well as with universities outside Europe.
Here you will find the current brochure of all partner universities with information on which degree programmes are suitable for each university.
Partner universities outside Europe are not covered by the Erasmus programme, which means that funding for a study visit there must be applied for separately.
Students at Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences do not have to pay tuition fees for a semester abroad at one of the partner universities.
When and how can I apply?
For a stay abroad in the winter semester:
by 15 February for all partner universities
For a stay abroad in the summer semester:
by 31 August for all other partner universities
Please apply with a participation application (see forms in the right-hand column) at the International Office of the Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences.
If there are more applicants than exchange places, the exchange place will go to the students with the best grade point average. The remaining students will be assigned to their second or third choice.
Experience reports
Current experience reports from students who have been abroad can be found in Moodle, which is password-protected. To read the reports, please log in with your Moodle access data.

Semester abroad at a non-partner university
Semester abroad at a non-partner university
It is also possible to organise your own semester abroad at a university that is not a partner university of the Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences. To do so, you must apply independently to a university of your choice or go through an intermediary organisation that provides free advice on universities and free support with the application process. In contrast to a semester abroad at a partner university, where no tuition fees are charged due to the cooperation agreement, tuition fees must be expected at a non-partner university. Some of the intermediary organisations offer scholarships and/or discounted tuition fees.
Intermediary organisations (selection)
At the University of Newcastle, THB students receive a 10% discount on tuition fees. Further information can be found here.
- College Contact (worldwide)
- Institut Ranke-Heinemann (Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam) -> also offers scholarships and study grants, reduction of tuition fees
- Asia Exchange (Asia)
- World of Students (worldwide)
Recognised universities can be found in the database of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs Anabin.
Travel warnings, the current security situation in your destination country, and health and vaccination advice can be found on the website of the Foreign Office.

After the mobility phase: Recognition of credits earned abroad
After the mobility phase, the host university sends a transcript of records to the students, which contains information on the grades and the grade distribution. For the recognition of credits earned abroad, students submit a copy of the transcript of records and the complete LA to the Examination Office. If the host university has a different grading system, please submit a description of the grading system to the Examinations Office. The grade will be converted by the Examination Board if a graded credit transfer is planned. The Examinations Office will then enter the grades or the completed semester abroad into the THB's online examination system.
Grade conversion procedure for grades obtained during a semester abroad:
The following note applies to students whose semester abroad is graded as part of their studies at the Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences (see SPO).
If the grading system in the host country is different from the grading system in the German higher education system, the grade must be converted accordingly. The Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences uses the conversion tables of the University of Potsdam for grade conversion. If no such table is available for a country, the so-called ‘modified Bavarian formula’ is applied (cf. resolution ‘Agreement on the determination of the overall grade for foreign university entrance qualifications’ of the Conference of Ministers of Education, 2013).
